In 2021, after deep study and prayer, Northshore’s leadership concluded that Scripture does not restrict women from serving as pastors. The congregation affirmed this decision, marking a historic shift in our life of our church.
Now, we’re revisiting the conversation—this time focusing on the role of women as elders/overseers. Once again, the board has found no biblical barrier to women serving in this position, but it’s up to the church to discern and decide.
Over the next four weeks, Pastor Scotty Scruggs will guide us through Side by Side, a careful exploration of what the Bible actually says about men and women in leadership in the church. Each message builds on the last, so you if you miss a week, go back and catch up in the archives. This is a journey best taken in community, so let's commit to dig in and explore together.

In the final week of Side by Side, Pastor Scotty brings the conversation back to where so much of Jesus’ ministry happened—around a table. With humility and biblical depth, he unpacks why Northshore’s Overseers believe that men and women are called to lead side by side—not in reaction to culture, but in response to God’s original design and Jesus’ redemptive work. It’s a vision rooted in mutuality, shared authority, and the belief that spiritual leadership should reflect the full image of God in both men and women.
But this message is about more than leadership. It’s about what makes us a family. Because while disciples are formed by listening to Jesus, we become a family by eating with Him. Around that table, we learn to stay together through disagreement, to love across difference, and to embody a kind of unity the world desperately needs to see.
