In 2021, after deep study and prayer, Northshore’s leadership concluded that Scripture does not restrict women from serving as pastors. The congregation affirmed this decision, marking a historic shift in our life of our church.

Now, we’re revisiting the conversation—this time focusing on the role of women as elders/overseers. Once again, the board has found no biblical barrier to women serving in this position, but it’s up to the church to discern and decide.

Over the next four weeks, Pastor Scotty Scruggs will guide us through Side by Side, a careful exploration of what the Bible actually says about men and women in leadership in the church. Each message builds on the last, so you if you miss a week, go back and catch up in the archives. This is a journey best taken in community, so let's commit to dig in and explore together.

In Part 3 of Side by Side, we continue our 4-part series by exploring what the Bible says about men and their roles within the church. Last week, we looked at what God says about the roles of women, and this week Pastor Scotty walks us through how men and women aren’t in conflict with each other, but are equally called to serve and honor God and point people to the gospel of Jesus.

God’s vision isn’t about pitting men and women against each other to see who holds ultimate authority — it’s about equality, mutuality, suitability, and intimacy between them.
