Job Description
The Pastor of Student Ministry is a visionary leader and passionate disciple-maker, charged with shaping the spiritual journey of middle and high school students. This role goes beyond program management—it's about cultivating a vibrant, Christ-centered community where students are known, challenged, and inspired to grow in faith. You’ll design and drive fun and innovative discipleship strategies, mentor and mobilize volunteers, and lead a dedicated ministry team that reflects the heart and mission of Northshore Community Church.
From weekly gatherings to retreats, outreach events, and leadership development, you’ll create spaces where students encounter Jesus, build lasting relationships, and discover their purpose. PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Leadership
- Leadership of Student Ministry: discover, develop, and deploy all levels of leaders within Student Ministry, including student leadership and volunteer staff
- Leadership & Development of Student Ministry Life Group Leaders and coaches: develop training systems and structure for volunteers to grow in their faith and ability to shepherd and serve as advocates for students
- Maintain the Student Ministry budget in coordination with the needs of the rest of the Next Gen team
Engagement and Connection
- Implement and oversee systems to ensure the welcoming and follow-up of new and unconnected students to the Northshore community; develop pathways to engage through community events, off-campus activities, like football games, or other student-driven engagement
- Ensure pastoral care of all students and their families in times of crisis and need
Discipleship/Life Transformation
- Use Midweek programming and Life Groups to help students take their next step creatively and purposely toward Jesus
- Maximize creative, relevant, and transformational teaching methods, including age-appropriate curriculum
- Prepare or curate large group curriculum/messages
- Plan annual events, such as retreats, camps, or missional experiences
Ministry to Parents & Families
- Oversee and direct ministry to parents of students, including regular communication and church-related child development milestone celebrations
- Collaborate with Next Gen team to plan parent and family ministry
Other Pastoral Staff Responsibilities
- Participate as part of the Northshore Staff, to include attending all-staff meetings and other all-staff events
- Participate as part of the Northshore pastoral staff as a pastor-on-call rotation, baptisms, or wedding/funeral services, as needed
- Participate as a leader in “All-hands” Northshore Events, as directed
Job Requirements
- Higher education degree or comparable skills in theological concepts and child development
- Passionate about the mission and vision of Northshore Community Church. Theologically aligned with Northshore’s Statement of Faith, and committed to Northshore’s Staff Values
- High degree of personal integrity. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding staff or congregant personal information, including ministry leaders, volunteers, students, and parents
- Demonstrated level of maturity and judgment, as well as the ability to remain objective and develop trusting and respectful relationships at all levels
- Excellent communication skills from the stage, in front of groups, and with team members
- Flexibility and adaptability to the changing needs of the student ministry
- Demonstrated effectiveness in leading teams and motivating leaders
- Ability to think strategically, set priorities, and be decisive
- Highly organized, skilled in planning, passionate about excellence
- Mature in faith, humble in demeanor, and self-aware
- Be a member at Northshore or become a member within 12 months of hire
