Kelcie Imhoff: A Story of Healing
July 31, 2023 •
Anxiety first gripped Kelcie at the age of 15. She was an exemplary student on the outside, but inside, she was bombarded with unrelenting difficulties.
Her senior year of high school was a season of tragedy and betrayal. A close friend was fatally struck by a train, a loss that left Kelcie emotionally shattered. Around the same time, her then-boyfriend cheated on her. Faced with such overwhelming adversities, she spiraled further into depression. School became an afterthought; she was barely hanging.
After High School, these challenges didn’t decrease but took different forms. Despite securing a job and beginning a new relationship, she experienced a mental breakdown. She would kick a bedpost to feel something. She finally cried out to God at her lowest point, desperate for help.
Eventually, Kelcie sought professional help. She found hope and direction and started an 11-year-long journey of medication and therapy. These were difficult years, but it was a time in which she found a new understanding of herself and her faith.
In 2018, Kelcie found spiritual encouragement and fellowship with like-minded believers at Northshore. This community was influential in her healing. She could share her vulnerabilities openly, leaning on a network of friends who provided emotional and spiritual support.
Today, Kelcie continues to face challenges but feels better equipped to meet them. She finds joy in being involved at Northshore, serving at Kids Summer Adventure, MOPS and Alpha.
