Discussion on Our Island Earth

Explore the wonders of Island Earth through a discussion with David Erickson, research scientist! 

For thousands of years, humans have watched the moon rise over the Earth.   But on Christmas Eve 1968, the Apollo 8 Astronauts were orbiting the moon and saw the Earth rise over the moon.  The photo on the cover is called “Earthrise” and is at once compelling and frightening.  There we see our beautiful blue planet floating in a sea of blackness, of nothingness.  So in a very real sense we are looking at “Our Island Earth” .  

On Earth we have everything we need to survive and thrive, and no other planet even comes close.  Most people have a vague idea of the Earth being special, but in this presentation, we will fill in the many details of the circumstances on Earth that make it so special and unique.
