The H.E.A.L. Initiative

Partnering with God to H.E.A.L. the world

Housing security. Education support. Access to basic needs. Love for the lost. Four places where need in our neighborhood and in the world meets the gifts of our people, and the call of God for this season.

Launching alongside the November series, What on Earth Is God Doing? Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

Why H.E.A.L.

Worship of God always includes love for the broken, the poor and the marginalized.

As worshipers of a missional God, we are a people on mission. The ministry of reconciliation has been entrusted to us: the reconciliation of broken relationships with self, with God, with others and with creation, leading to the restoration of shalom.

H.E.A.L. is one framework for everything Northshore does in outreach, local and global, so that each of us can see where we fit and take a next step. It also gives us room to dream together about new initiatives God may be calling us to.

Isaiah 58 · Micah 6:8 · 2 Corinthians 5:18

Four areas. One mission.

Each area brings together a compelling need here and around the world, trusted partners who are already at work, and ways for every age at Northshore to learn, pray, give and serve.

Four ways to be an agent of healing

Serve

Learn

The need is real. So is the hope.

H.E.A.L. started with two questions: what are the compelling needs in our neighborhood and in the world, and what has God already put in our hands? Here is some of what we found.

87%

of Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists worldwide do not personally know a single Christian.

70%

of the world's refugees come from just six countries: Afghanistan, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Venezuela.

14

countries in Sub-Saharan Africa are projected to double their population by 2050, in the places where extreme poverty is deepest.

Here

Our own neighbors name mental health, housing, food, healthcare, social isolation and barriers to accessing resources as the pressures they feel most.

pray

Start here, with God

Before we design a single program, we're asking God what He is already doing. Pray one of these each week this month, with your family, your Life Group or on your own.

Week 1: Housing

God of compassion, shelter those without homes, and make us agents of hope and healing here and around the world. Amen.

Week 2: Education

God of wisdom and truth, open doors to learning and make us instruments of Your grace to the next generation, here and around the world. Amen.

Week 3: Basic needs

God of abundance and mercy, provide for those in need near and far, and work through us to share your love in tangible ways. Amen.

Week 4: The lost

God of all creation, fill us with your love for those who do not yet know you, and send us to our neighbors near and far with your good news. Amen.

Give

The power of giving together*

Pick an area and a monthly amount to see the kind of impact giving to the General Fund can have. Steady, monthly generosity is what lets our partners plan, hire and keep showing up. Just like the envelope wall in the lobby, each amount has a set number of envelopes. When they are gone, they are gone.

Volunteer menu coming early 2027

We're building a menu of volunteer opportunities with our local and global partners, for individuals, families, Life Groups and Gatherings. It will live right here. Sign up for the quarterly report and you'll be the first to know.

Start small this month
H

Assemble 5 hygiene kits for your unhoused neighbors. Keep them in your car and pass them out to people you encounter this month as a way to bless them. What to include in a kit

e

Write an encouraging note to a teacher or staff member at the school nearest you, or ask about being a reading or lunch buddy.

a

Check a local food bank's needs list, gather the critical items, pray for the people who will receive them, and deliver.

l

Invite a neighbor from a different faith background to a meal. Friendship is where the good news travels.

H

What to include in a hygiene kit

Pack everything in a gallon zip-top bag so it stays dry and is easy to hand through a car window.

Travel toothbrush and toothpaste
Bar soap or body wipes
Deodorant
New pair of warm socks
Hand warmers
Lip balm and small lotion
Comb
Bandages and tissues
Feminine hygiene products
Granola bars or soft snacks
Bottle of water
A handwritten note of encouragement

Skip mouthwash, hand sanitizer and anything with alcohol. If you can, add a card with local resource information from Vision House or Union Gospel Mission.

Stories of healing

This is what partnership looks like

Real people, real partners, and the quiet work of God in the middle of it. New stories arrive with every quarterly report.

Housing

A Together For story

When Deborah went into treatment for addiction, she threw herself into getting sober. Five months later, she was ready to leave and had nowhere to go. Asking for help scared her. She’d spent much of her life handling things on her own, and she remembers what it meant to walk into

Education

Naina’s story

Born into a community where girls are expected to enter the sex trade at puberty, Naina found a safe home and a good school through our partner in India. She has since completed a nursing degree and given her life to Jesus.

Basic Needs

Kelly's story

For Kelly, keeping food on the table for her three teenage sons was a daily struggle. When some of the support she’d been counting on fell away, making ends meet got even harder. Buying groceries could mean putting off a bill, and paying that bill could leave too little for food.

The Lost

Twenty baptisms in three months

Through youth camps, media outreach, clean water and small income projects, our partners in a closed country in Central Asia are reaching young and old. Fruit is slow in these places. This season brought an encouraging harvest.
