Week 7: Friday

Lent Reflections

The Holy Weekend is comprised of three days: Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Resurrection (Easter) Sunday. Each of these days is a spiritual experience. We are formed through the experiences and themes of each day’s purpose.

Good Friday is an invitation to wrestle with our sin. To recognize how our sin is why Jesus needed to die. To realize we are no different than the people who nailed Jesus to the cross. In fact, had we been there, we would have done the same. At the same time, it is an invitation to realize Jesus willingly went to the
cross on our behalf. That is how we know the extent of his love.

Holy Saturday is a liminal day. That is to say, it is a space between two realities. It reminds us that both the death and resurrection are necessary to have redemption and hope. It also teaches us that sometimes we must learn to be patient as God is working. Just as we anticipate the resurrection after the crucifixion, we will live with anticipation in our daily life.

Resurrection Sunday is proof and declaration that Jesus is Lord and Savior. It demonstrates that a new reality has dawned and that the Kingdom of God will continue to expand. That the course of reality is that on Earth it becomes at is in Heaven and that God will be our God and we will be his people. As we experience those things, we become commissioned to invite others into the new life available in Christ.

To Practice
• Good Friday- Join us at our Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. as we reflect on the parallels between the Passover lamb and Jesus’ sacrifice.
• Holy Saturday- We invite you to have a slow-paced day. Think about what the disciples might have felt after the crucifixion. Spend time reflecting on what it means to live in anticipation of resurrection. We have a worship playlist(Spotify required) that you can listen to at some point while you reflect.
• Resurrection Sunday- Join us on Resurrection Sunday at one of our three services at 7:30, 9, or 10:30 a.m. Consider participating as an evangelist by inviting someone to join you as we celebrate Christ’s victory over sin and death.
