Job Description

This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, maintenance, stability, improvements, and security of the computer systems & network, as well as jumping in to provide general technical support as needed. This position acts as an onsite intermediary and is complementary to the already in place MSP IT support contract.

System Management

  • Oversee and plan projects
  • Create and maintain vendor relationships
  • Oversee MSP helpdesk support and serve as a point of escalation
  • Chose, implement, and enforce hardware/software standards
  • Annual budgeting and 5-year financial planning
  • Adhere to financial procedures and policies
  • Asset management including lifecycle management
  • Communication with staff about projects, downtime, maintenance windows, etc.
  • Maintain software licensing records
  • Create and update department documentation
  • Inter-departmental coordination with Human Resources and Facilities

System Administration

  • Secure computer systems and services from both internal and external threats
  • Tune server and network equipment for optimal performance
  • Network configuration and cabling
  • Provide technical support to electronic door system and security cameras
  • Assist MSP with creating/managing end-user accounts and services
  • Proactively attend to/bring attention to software or hardware issues, especially recurring issues

Technical Support

  • End-user support as a backup to MSP Support
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting as needed
  • Assist end-users with project planning
  • Assist and provide end-users with basic training
  • Order new end-user equipment and replace old equipment


Job Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in Systems Administration
  • Experience in mixed Windows and Mac environments
  • Excellent communication skills, planning, and problem-solving abilities
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft programs
  • Ability to work as a team member with peer workgroup to accomplish desired results
  • Be a Northshore member or pursue membership
