Baptism is a powerful public expression of one’s faith in Jesus Christ.
Before one is baptized, it is important to understand there is one prerequisite: you must put your trust and faith in what Jesus did for you on the Cross—it is a visible symbol of an invisible commitment, an outward expression of an inward decision. The actual act of baptism is unlike anything else as it identifies us with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. One goes under the water symbolizing a watery grave and comes up out of the water clean and new, symbolizing new life in Christ.
God has designed this as a way for us, His children, to be recognized on earth as belonging to Him. In Matthew 3, Jesus’ baptism is recorded as a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, who I love; with Him I am well-pleased.’
God requires those who have put their faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, to be baptized. It is a command for all believers. We find these instructions in Acts 2:37-38 and Matthew 28:19; “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”
